I have naturally black hair as well & I find that the John Frieda shampoos (Brilliant Brunette Espresso) work to keep your hair dark & true to the natural shade. There are also UV protection shampoos/conditioners/sprays. Loreal Vive-Pro is a good one for the UV protection.

A white hat will block the sun the same as a black hat, as long as it completely blocks it out (it's not partially see through). If it's going to be hot, I would suggest a white hat, though, because it won't get hot like a black hat would. The color black absorbs all of the colors
