Great Looking Hat
This is a great hat. The material feels well made and it looks good. I ended up returning it for a cheaper one because, well, I'm cheap. But I would have kept it had it not been 65 dollars at the time of purchase. I took it out put it on, examined the feel and make and it is a nicely made hat. I... -
Great Hat!
This is a great hat! It's well made, nice looking and light enough to wear in the summer, even though it's felt. I looked around a lot before buying this hat and for the price, this is the best one I could find. I've only had it for about a month, but it seems durable enough to last a...

The reasons for the hat
I took off my hat. I removed it. It sat next to me at my station above the rink. I didn't wear it. Why didn't I wear it? I don't know. Was it out of respect? Was it because I didn't want to block the view of the writers on the row above me? I don't know. Still, maybe it was better where it was. Right there: beside me. Like a sleeping pet. A small dog curled up in itself. Smooth. Canadian brown. The black band unstitched, having fallen out of the shell months ago.
The hat was made by Eatonia, which I assume was made by Eaton's, although I'm not sure. The Eatonia script is cursive and written in jet black; it reminds me of the Blue Cheer logo, although I'm not sure that's what the designer had in mind. It may be from the '60s, it may be from the '70s, and it was worn by my either my grandfather or my stepmother's father, both great hat men. I hadn't looked at it the way I looked at it that night at the rink because I'd never actually sat it beside me before. Maybe it was the arena lights: bright and glowing. Or maybe it was because none of the other sports writers at the game were wearing one or because, once upon a time, all sports writers wore them. I don't know. Eatonia. Eaton's used to be just down the street from the Gardens, but the Gardens is now a grocery store. And not only do sports writers not wear hats, they don't smoke or drink or swear, at least not at the rink. A few days ago, Major League Baseball announced that it was establishing a dress code for reporters, but that seems silly. On the radio, there were har hars by writers who wondered how Jonesy was gonna get away with his Hawaiian shirts and Punch his trademark long shorts. But most reporters dress well. They know their rinsing products from their cleansing ones and the majority favour blazers and sweaters over rumpled things. Jonesy's shirts were worn out of comfort rather than respect for his dishevelled elders, but it doesn't matter. I took off my hat. It sat next to me at my station above the rink. I didn't wear it.
