The OGC Announces GEOSS Workshop XLIII: Sharing Climate Information and Knowledge

XLIII GEOSS Workshop: Climate Information and knowledge sharing will be held from September 23, 2011 at NCAR Center Green Boulder, Colorado. During this one-day meeting, key representatives from industry, academia and the Government will provide invited talks focused on issues, tools and techniques available to improve the interdisciplinary discovery and use of climate data, records and modeling results. The workshop will be held one week after FOSS4G conference in Denver and immediately after the meeting in Boulder OGC TC.

The Global Earth Observation (GEOSS, see geoss.org [http://www.geoss.org /]) is a complex international system of sensors, communication devices, storage systems, computer peripherals and other used to observe the Earth and to gather the data necessary for a better understanding of the processes of the Earth. In addition, GEOSS includes models and processes to create information from observational data. GEOSS is also a forum to promote collaboration between communities of interest among scientists and geophysical world. These interactions can take advantage of software development and better interoperability for monitoring the Earth system and forecasts.

Adoption of web 2.0 by academics in the UK and US has received some attention in recent years, (e.g. funded by the Research Information Network ) and even in these countries, adoption is limited.
