Restaurant review Tuscan Tea Room: an oasis of serenity, finesse
The sound of cheering, chicken-chomping football fans wafted through the open door of the Tuscan Tea Room Bistro, a gilded, aqua- tinted paean to 18th-century European luxury. At a spinet next to the bar, a pianist pluckily worked his way through an American pop playlist, doing his best to override the rowdies next door.
Meanwhile patrons at linen-dressed tables amid the mirrored-and-marbled elegance were doing something impossible at most contemporary restaurants: conversing over dinner in tones that would lull a child to sleep.
Here, readers, is that serene and civilized dining room so many of you pine for: in a West Seattle storefront sharing an entrance with the Wing Dome, surely the oddest juxtaposition at the Junction.
Three nights a week Aimee Pellegrini's baroque jewel box becomes a romantic, candlelit Italian bistro complete with cocktails, wines, and a menu spanning shrimp scampi, fresh pasta and short ribs. Six days a week it serves Italianate lunches, brunches and high tea.
Ohio pig statue hams it up in the limelight | The Madison-Press
TOLEDO (AP) — What a ham.
At age 65, weighing a hefty 950 pounds, Oreo squeals with personality. An art-in-the-yard legend, the local landmark has been photographed by passers-by thousands of times in the last 20 years.
And why not?
A black-and-white concrete porker, he pretty much does it all. He plows snow, rakes leaves, washes laundry. He skates. He bowls. He plays ball.
And always, always, his outfits match his role-playing activities.
Every Monday at 6 a.m., Harold Ridgeway of Waterville decorates his pig for the week, and truck drivers along with many area residents eagerly await the latest display of costumes and props, seasonal in nature and whimsical in detail....
bookofjoe: "No Cheesehead for Grim Reaper"
The maker of the foam cheeseheads isn't amused that a physicians group tried to use the hat in an anti-cheese billboard. Foamation Inc. threatened to sue after the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine announced it was putting up a billboard featuring the Grim Reaper donning a bright yellow cheese-wedge hat [near the Green Bay Packers' hallowed Lambeau Field; above]. The sign warns of the health hazards of fat, cholesterol and sodium in cheese. The cheesehead image was blacked out [below] before the sign went up [Tuesday].

Cut into 16 wedges. For one hat, spoon about½ teaspoon chocolate chips along narrow edge of one wedge. Starting from same edge, roll toward point, enclosing chocolate chips and leaving 4 inches crust unrolled between roll and point. The Seattle Times - Dec 31, 1969
Pellegrini is a talented baker, yet both teas incorporated a single sweet: tiramisu with the larger tea; a voluptuously frosted wedge of chocolate layer cake with the smaller. A pedestal stacked with fresh scones on the marble bar caught my eye,Dayton Daily News - Dec 31, 1969
He gets a beer keg and party hat. On New Year's Day, the pig shows that he's been a real party animal: an ice bag sits atop his head. Sometimes a lamp shade, too. On football Sundays, Oreo roots for the Green Bay Packers. He wears a cheese-wedge hat;Vancouver Sun - Dec 31, 1969
NID=226 This is the grand fromage of cheese festivals with 150 nations dishing it out over three days in September. This is a serious one, so no cheeseeating contests and cheese-wedge hats. The medieval town of Bra is lovely, so show your support.
