Before Zac Brown and his band take the stage tonight at the Bryce Jordan Center, Sonia Leigh, an old friend and contemporary of the boys from Georgia, will perform her own hybrid variation of country. It’s a mixture of the modern that also tips its cowboy hat to the legends who pained and paved the way for today’s musicians years ago.
“People are growing up and seeing that this is where their roots come from, these are the things they grew up on,” Leigh said of mainstream media’s refascination and re-appreciation of the country giants of yesteryear.
“You look around and there’s not a lot like that left and once it’s gone, it’s gone. Artists like George Jones and Loretta Lynn, they are the staple of what our foundation of country music was built on and I think people are starting to realize that those roots are not going to be there forever; their music is going to live on, but to catch them live and really appreciate them while they’re alive.
