It’s just the handmade creation that the family donned, called Beard Beanies. Part hat, part “beard,” the apparel is meant to keep faces warm during the most frigid of temperatures. They come in a variety of shapes and beard styles.
Most frequently used in sports such as skiing, rock climbing, snowmobiling, hunting, backpacking, ice fishing and paragliding, the apparel has become something of a “sensation,” according to the Beard Beanie website, with order demands for the product coming in from all over the world.
“It’s been a crazy ride for us,” said Tara Duffin, who makes most of the beanies herself with her husband out of their Logan home.
While the Duffins have a patent pending on their work — which has been copied by bigger companies many times over — they continue to seek out new ways to market their product and create new designs of the beanie, all while raising three children.
