Slovakia's ode to Peeping Tom

A historical interlude

Before I landed on Slovakia's shores, I pondered over a wringer - where exactly did the country lie? Pouring over a map of Europe, I found it wedged deep in Central Europe. Slovakia's a toddler in Europe's atlas; having become a sovereign state just about two decades ago, after the smoothly executed Gentle Revolution severed it from the common state of Czechoslovakia.

Its capital Bratislava is a mere smidgeon, with a population of just about 500,000 people, of course excluding the aforementioned esteemed inhabitants. Trundling in a fire engine red presporacik, a mini train, from the Old Town Hall, I set off to discover its commie connections and royal past, as a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I rolled through the cafe lined Square of the Slovak Uprising with its pastel coloured buildings peppered with kiosks and cafes, passing grey buildings of the Freedom Square, dominated by the gigantic Druzba Fountain - a rendition of Linden Flowers in metal.

I thought I will be having my dream come true to have a cold Christmas holiday this year. I have bought the flight tickets to fly 1,400 miles up north where it should be about 50ºF during the Christmas week, though no snow but it is cold enough to make me happy. So, I knit this simple slouch beanie hat for my daughter to keep her warm since it will be her first coldest temperature experience. But… things didn’t turn out to what I have planned… that’s a long boring story…..

This simple slouch beanie hat is quite easy and fast to complete. Get the knitting pattern after this. I used eye lashes texture yarn which I bought at Spotlight during my recent trip to Singapore . The yarn is classified as super bulky, but you may use any similar yarn to replace it. If you want to have a longer slouch behind the hat, just increase the stitches. You can also add a pom-pom at the back or attach your favorite brooch to decorate this simple hat....
